Use this pre-delivery inspection checklist to verify the VIN, condition, documents, controls, tyres and included equipment.
Perform the pre-delivery inspection before registration or final acceptance whenever the seller's process allows it. Confirm the exact model, variant, colour and agreed manufacturing period against the booking form. Ask for enough time and daylight; a rushed inspection at closing time makes cosmetic and documentation errors easy to miss.
What buyers should evaluate
Match the visible vehicle identification number with the invoice and registration paperwork. Do not publish or casually share the complete identifier. Check that the engine number and other required details match the documents, and ask the dealer to correct any discrepancy before proceeding.
Walk around the motorcycle slowly. Inspect paint, panels, decals, fasteners, mirrors, levers, wheels, tyres, seat, exhaust and exposed wiring for scratches, cracks, corrosion or transport damage. Check tyre condition and manufacturing markings, but use the manufacturer guidance—not appearance alone—to decide whether anything is unacceptable.
Cost and ownership checks
With the vehicle safely positioned, test the ignition, display, warning lamps, headlamp, indicators, brake light, horn, switches and charging or connected features included with the variant. Confirm both keys and verify that promised software functions are activated without handing unnecessary account access to another person.
Check fluid levels and visible leaks on a petrol motorcycle; for an EV, confirm battery state, charger model, cable and installation responsibility. Start or operate the vehicle only with dealer supervision. Listen for an abnormal sound and ask for an explanation, but do not treat a brief stationary check as a full mechanical test.
Make the final decision
Review the invoice, insurance policy, registration application, warranty booklet, owner manual, roadside-assistance terms, service schedule and accessory invoice. Verify your name and address spelling. Identify optional charges, promised discounts and pending documents on a signed delivery note instead of relying on a verbal assurance.
Photograph agreed defects and have the remedy and date recorded before acceptance. After delivery, learn the controls, recommended running-in guidance, tyre pressures and first-service requirements from the owner manual. A careful PDI documents the delivery condition; it cannot predict long-term reliability.
